David Khari Weber Schapelle was born on August 24, 1973, in Washington, D.C. His father, William David Schapelle, and his mother Yvonne.

He grew up in Silver Spring Village and studied at Woodlin Elementary Elementary School. Many comedians were inspired during his school days, including Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy.

His parents divorced when he was very young. In 1991, he graduated from Duke Ellington School of Art, where he majored in theatre arts.
