Bolton Book: Trump used Khashoggi's case to cover up his daughter Ivanka's crisis

Excerpts from former US national security adviser John Bolton's book reveal that President Donald Trump used the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi to help his daughter Ivanka.

Ivanka was facing a crisis in November 2018 after it was revealed that she was using her personal e-mail in official business correspondence and Trump had used a similar issue in the attack by his former presidential rival Hillary Clinton, who used her personal e-mail in correspondence while she was secretary of state.

According to Bolton's book, which the administration is trying to prevent on the grounds that it contains classified information, Trump took advantage of Khashoggi's case and decided to make his own statement to distract attention from Ivanka's crisis and use her personal mail in official correspondence.

"We discussed whether Trump should read the statement himself from the White House podium, or just issue the statement as a written text," Bolton said. Bolton attributed to Trump as saying that 'this will distract Ivanka', adding: 'If you read the statement in person, it will cover the topic of Ivanka.'
