The World Health Organization praises Egypt's efforts to confront Corona

The WHO representative in Cairo, John Jabbour, praised the Egyptian state's efforts in confronting the new Coronavirus (Coved 19), stressing that it had taken it seriously from the outset.

During a press conference, Jabbour said Egypt has activated all rapid response teams in all provinces to monitor positive cases and track contacts, regardless of their geographical distribution.

Egypt recorded the first confirmed case of the new CORONA virus on February 14, and the number of people infected so far reached 2065, 589 of whom have recovered and 159 have died.

Jabbour praised Egypt's respiratory disease monitoring system, saying it operates by WHO standards.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was proactive in promoting public health in the country before the Corona epidemic, he said, adding that the 'Hundred Million Health' initiative launched earlier has now shown fruit.

The international official noted that the figures show that 85 percent of people infected with the new CORONA virus have recovered without treatment.
He stressed that he receives daily a detailed list of positive results in Egypt for the new coronavirus.

He added that WHO had worked alongside the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population during the measures taken to contain the new coronavirus.

Jabbour reviewed the stages of monitoring the new coronavirus, from its appearance in China late last year, until it was declared a global epidemic on March 11.
