Oprah Winfrey donates $10 million to mitigate the effects of CORONAvirus

Us television host Oprah Winfrey said Thursday that she will donate 10 million dollars to efforts to mitigate the effects of the Coronavirus, including a new project that helps feed Americans at risk during the outbreak.

The announcement of the initiative was made to one of the most influential women in the United States through its various social media accounts.

"I donate a total of $10 million to help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in the areas where they originated," she said.

Winfrey, 66, was born poor in Mississippi and grew up in Milwaukee and Tennessee.

Part of the donation will go to the new American food fund initiative, launched in collaboration with Apple, the Ford Foundation, businesswoman Lauren Powell Jobs and actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Fund will help feed those most affected by the Coronavirus outbreak in America, including children who depend on school feeding programs and low-income families as well as the elderly and those who have lost their jobs.

Winfrey's announcement came on the same day that U.S. statistics showed a record 6.6 million unemployment benefit applications last week.
