Facebook offers $100 million to support media organizations

Facebook has pledged $100 million to help media outlets in a difficult situation that has been exacerbated by the damage caused by the Coved-19 epidemic to provide reliable information when it is urgently needed.

"The media sector is working in exceptional circumstances to keep people updated on the Coved-19 epidemic," said Campbell Brown, who is in charge of collaboration with the company's global media.

"At a time when journalism is becoming more important than ever, advertising revenue slumped because of the economic impact of the epidemic," Brown said. "Local journalists are particularly affected, while people turn to them for information about the safety of their friends, family, and community."

The company said the assistance includes $25 million in emergency donations to the local press and $75 million in promotional assistance, without giving further details on the criteria for distributing funds.
