Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, is in hospital ten days after his injury

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was hospitalized ten days after he was infected with the Coronavirus, the government announced.

A government spokeswoman said Johnson was "still suffering from persistent symptoms of the corona, including a high temperature."

Johnson's transfer to the hospital was described as a "precautionary step" taken on the advice of a doctor.

Johnson is still in office, but the secretary of state is expected to chair a cabinet meeting on the spread of the virus on Monday morning.

"On the advice of his doctor, the prime minister was taken to hospital tonight for examinations," the spokeswoman said.

"The Prime Minister thanks the National Health Service workers for the extraordinary effort they are making and calls on people to follow the advice of the government, stay at home, protect the health system in the country, and save the lives of others."

Johnson has been on duty from his home since his HIV infection was announced on March 27.

Johnson was seen applauding a salute to medical and health care workers from his Downing Street home Thursday evening, and he presided over a Corona video meeting Friday morning.
