Italy announces the worst daily death toll from CORONA virus

Italy on Friday recorded the highest daily death toll from THE COVID-19, with 969 people reported to have died in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 9,134 in the most affected country. The number of new cases of the epidemic in Italy has also reached 86,498.

Italian civil defense official figures released Friday showed nearly 1,000 deaths in 24 hours, the highest single-day toll in the world since the epidemic began in December 2019.

This brings the total her of deaths in Italy to 9,134, an increase of 969 since Thursday. 

However, the rate of infection continues to decline, with 7.4 percent of new cases registered growing (86,498 overall), the lowest since the outbreak began in the country more than a month ago.

Lombardy is the worst-hit region with more than half of the country's deaths (5,402 out of 37,298 injuries), followed by Emilia-Romagna (1,267 out of 11,588).
