American arrested for trying to blow up a car in front of the Pentagon

An Arkansas man has been arrested on charges of attempting to blow up a car outside the Pentagon, federal officials said Tuesday.

Matthew Dimitri Richardson, of Fayetteville, is scheduled to arrive in federal court in Virginia on Tuesday, after his arrest the day before.

A 19-year-old Pentagon policeman was seen standing next to a car and lit a lighter with a cloth attached to the vehicle's fuel tank, according to a federal criminal complaint.

Richardson told the policeman that he was 'going to blow up this car' as well as 'himself', but it was not clear whether Richardson had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
